Police have vowed to continue to target shops which sell alcohol to children after an off-licence owner was fined by magistrates.

Jack Brady looked on while an employee at his off-licence in Tong Street, Bradford, sold a four-pack of lager to a 15-year-old schoolboy during a test purchase operation by police and trading standards officers.

Brady, who admitted he should have intervened to stop the sale, was fined £500 and ordered to pay £330 prosecution costs by Bradford magistrates.

Chief Inspector Jason Galvin, of Bradford South Police, said: "This case is another example of the co-operation between us and trading standards and we will continue to target premises that sell alcohol to children and young people. Retailers should be aware that they not only face court action when committing these offences but also the possibility of losing their licence."
