Police and firefighters are probing the cause of a blaze which gutted a terraced home.

A man needed treatment in Airedale Hospital, Steeton, for smoke inhalation after the blaze broke out in the house in Fairfax Street yesterday morning. His partner was unhurt.

They are understood to be newly weds who had recently returned from their honeymoon.

A Keighley Police spokesman said inquiries were ongoing and involved interviewing the two occupants to establish the circumstances.

The outbreak, which was tackled by firefighters from Keighley and Silsden and started in the living room, was not believed to have been suspicious.

Neighbour Michael Dorman, 49, who is visiting his niece Lynn Hamblett, 34, and her 21-month old son Zak, said he was woken by the smell of smoke.

"I looked out of the window and could see smoke billowing out of next door," he said.

"I dashed round to wake Lynne and told her to get out with the little lad.

"I saw a man running up and down completely naked and shouting. I think he thought the woman was inside but I later learned she had got out the front."

Miss Hamblett added: "It was a good job I was woken up. I would have had to rely on the smoke alarm which went off after we got out."

The three were sheltered by a neighbour until they were allowed back in their home at about 7.30am.
