Youngsters from across the district will take charge of a pot of money to be spent on things to do and places to go for themselves and their peers.

The Government cash is being administered by Bradford Council's youth service but teenagers will decide how it is used. Young people aged 13-19 are being asked to choose which applicants will get a share of the money and plan, deliver and monitor the projects.

Volunteers will be given training and support to do this and will be able to visit the places that receive funding.

Councillor Colin Gill, the council's executive member for children's services, said: "This could be a fantastic opportunity for young people to have a stake in what facilities are in their local areas and to make a positive difference to the lives of themselves and their peers. It will also be a great asset to their CVs in the skills and experience it will provide."

Anyone interested is invited to attend a Youth Opportunity and Youth Capital Fund working group meeting at Bradford Youth Service, City Road, Bradford, on Tuesday, July 3, from 6pm to 8pm. For further information contact Mark Kellett at Bradford youth service on (01274) 433714.
