Work is beginning on a £260,000 revamp of the market in Pudsey. Council chiefs say the refurbishment will transform the market into a modern, comfortable and safe shopping environment.
The 20 dilapidated timber stalls, which are more than 40 years old, will be replaced by 25 much larger steel ones. The flooring, security and access will also be improved and the revamp is scheduled to be completed by the end of October.
Councillor Andrew Carter said: "Pudsey market is an integral part of the town centre and very popular with visitors. This refurbishment will no doubt attract many more visitors and new traders in to the town and will ultimately boost its economy."
