Van drivers are being warned not to leave tools in their vehicles overnight after a spate of thefts.

Police are warning people in the Kirklees area to be on their guard after a number of vans were targeted by thieves who smashed windows and stole items, mainly power tools.

Most of the thefts have happened between 2am and 7am and many have been overnight Saturday or overnight Sunday.

Det Con Paul Hutchinson, from Dewsbury CID, said: "At this stage we believe the thefts are linked and we would appeal for anyone with information to contact us.

"Items such as power tools are distinctive and we would urge anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the Dewsbury East area over recent weeks to contact us."

Anyone with information should contact Det Con Hutchinson on 01924 431131 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
