A young entrepreneur from Bradford has been named as one of the top young businessmen in the country.
Andre Senyk has been shortlisted in the 2007 Shell Livewire Young Entrepreneur of the Year award.
The 25-year-old former Bradford Grammar School pupil was picked following the successful launch of his online prescription glasses and contact lenses business.
Mr Senyk trained as an optician after he left school and came up with the idea of challenging the high street optician giants. He worked out that his employers were charging a fortune for glasses when he could provide them with what they need for as little as £12.
The new business he set up - www.speckyfoureyes.com - would be based on the web but still allow customers to try on frames, albeit digitally.
Using his patented eyePod programme, shoppers can upload pictures of themselves and superimpose frames on to their faces to see if they suit.
He has also launched a separate site to deal with contact lenses.
Initial results seem to show that the business is a success.
He surpassed his forecasted sales targets for the first quarter of 2007 by a massive 400 per cent.
He is now working on the business full time and has taken on one full-time member of staff with a second in the pipeline to cope with the demand.
He said: "My hard work and determination has paid off - business is excellent and growing faster than planned. People are placing multiple orders through the website and with my prices they can afford to."
Speckyfoureyes has spread in popularity via word of mouth and Mr Senyk has already garnered repeat business from satisfied customers.
To use the site all customers have to do is make sure they have their prescription ready to hand and fill in the online form. Products are then shipped.
Mr Senyk's business provides the full spectrum of services, from bifocals to prescription glasses.
