A FAMILY escaped from their smoke-filled Bradford home after a fire broke out in the chimney.
Two homes in Lidget Terrace, Lidget Green, filled with smoke as the fire took hold at around 4.30pm today.
Fire crews ventilated the properties to get rid of the smoke.
A fire service spokesman said the property's smoke alarms were not working.
Two adults and two children fled the house as the smoke filled the house. The householder had managed to put out the fire.
Firefighters have now fitted new smoke alarms.
The spokesman said that owners of open fires and wood burners shoud have chimneys swept at least once a year.
