POLICE say it may be some time before they identify a body that was found near the River Calder yesterday.
The discovery was made mid afternoon, around 3pm, by a member of the public just off Huddersfield Road, Mirfield, near the back of the John Cotton factory.
Several officers, including a forensic team, were on site investigating the river bank for much of the afternoon.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police confirmed that a body had been found today, but that the person had not yet been identified.
This morning they said they were still not in a position to release any more details, such as gender or age, and that it could be some time before they are able to do so.
