North Kirklees residents have until next summer before the Council moves dustbin collections to alternate weeks.
It follows the success of a pilot scheme which will now be rolled out across the whole district.
The plans will see normal waste bins and recycling bins collected on alternate weeks instead of the weekly collection of grey waste bins and monthly collection of the green recycling bin.
The pilot, which covered 5,000 households, resulted in ten per cent increase of waste being put in recycling bins It will be expanded this year to South Kirklees, and North Kirklees will happen in two parts - the first next summer and the second in spring 2009.
Community meetings will take place before the scheme is implemented in any area and information will be made available on recycling and waste prevention.
