A sponsored walk raised at least £200 to help a Bradford man stay in the UK.

Michael Bourne, 47, and fiancee Barbara Firth, 46,of Wareham Corner, Holme Wood, need to raise £4,000 to pay the legal costs of an appeal against a deportation order.

The walk on Saturday from Bradford City Hall to Leeds City Hall and back raised £130 in street collections and more is coming in from sponsors. Mr Bourne, who has been in the UK for ten years, was detained in March, ready to be put on a plane to Barbados. He was released at the last minute after an intervention from Bradford South MP Gerry Sutcliffe.

A recent dance at the City Hotel to boost the appeal raised £400.

The couple estimate the fighting fund now stands at £1,500.
