A man "snapped" when he saw his ex-girlfriend "becoming familiar" with another man, a court heard.
Lauren Brown suffered a broken nose when she was struck by former boyfriend Robert Spencer, Bradford Crown Court was told.
Spencer, 21, of Hall Close, Sutton in Craven, pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm. He was placed under a community order which includes 12 months supervision, carrying out 50 hours unpaid work for the community and attending 10 sessions of an anger management course.
Passing sentence, Recorder I Graham told Spencer: "You saw her becoming familiar with another man and snapped."
Paul Nicholson, prosecuting, said the pair's eight-month relationship had broken up about a week before the incident.
Miss Brown went out with friends to the K2 club in Keighley. A few hours later she saw Spencer and felt uneasy, as he was giving her dirty looks.
As she was dancing with a young man, Spencer suddenly got close and punched her on the nose.
Spencer then continued to hit out at the man until he was pulled away by security staff.
Miss Brown suffered a fractured nose and bruising to her cheekbones and eyelids, said Mr Nicholson.
Shortly afterwards, Spencer sent her a text message, saying: "I didn't mean you to get hurt."
He told officers he saw Miss Brown kiss someone else and as he went to hit the man, his elbow caught his former girlfriend.
