A 31-year-old man has been given an £80 fixed penalty notice for wasting police time after a false report of a burglary in West Bank Close, Braithwaite, was made to police.
Police are now warning anyone making a false report of a crime will be prosecuted.
Detective Inspector Peter Craig, of Keighley CID, said: "The police will investigate every allegation of burglary and will support genuine victims of crime.
"However, people reporting false crimes will be prosecuted."
