A supermarket removed disposable carrier bags from its checkouts during an environment awareness drive.
Sainsbury's at Greengates in Bradford yesterday offered customers free reusable bags for life, which usually cost 10p.
During a previous similar Make the Difference' day the supermarket gave away 8,000 reusable bags.
According to the store, customers use the bags for life at least 20 times, meaning customers at Greengates could have saved an estimated 160,000 disposable bags being used then thrown away.
Make the Difference days take place once a month.
