A HACKNEY carriage driver had his taxi licence suspended after police caught him breaking road rules at a mini-roundabout in Bradford.

Officers, working as part of the Operation Steerside danger driver crackdown, spotted the 61-year-old Bradford man failing to "observe priority" on Mill Lane, at the junction with Prospect Street, in Bowling.

A police spokesman said: "Steerside is committed to enforcing driving standards in Bradford for all the motorists who wish to use our roads. This particularly includes professional drivers."

The spokesman added: "A full report has been forwarded to Bradford Council's hackney carriage enforcement department."

Officers also released details of car seizures, including a Nissan Primera and a Volkswagen Golf. The Primera was seized because its driver had previously received a section 59 warning from police. The Golf was taken off the roads because it was being driven by a Bradford man who had no licence or insurance.

Another motorist was caught travelling at 67mph in a 40mph and then found to be disqualified from driving. The car was seized.

Sergeant Cameron Buchan said: "We continue to target illegal use of the road in Bradford. One of these drivers had been issued a police warning for bad driving and yet continued to display poor standards, the other chose to drive without even passing a driving test or obtaining insurance."
