A Bradford professor is calling for people to post online messages to lobby the Government to act on poverty.
He wants commitments from world leaders at the next G8 summit on Wednesday, June 6, to tackle Third World debt, the living conditions of the poor and climate change.
Professor John Wright, clinical director of Bradford Hospital Trust, has backed Oxfam in its campaign to amass public support.
He said: "The millions who got involved in the Make Poverty History campaign in 2005 won major commitments from the world's richest countries, but words mean nothing without action. We're looking for cast-iron guarantees."
Lucy Glynn, Oxfam campaigns officer for Yorkshire, said she hoped people would make their voices heard at The World Can't Wait rally in London on Saturday, June 2, or at a demonstration in Central Square, Leeds, on Sunday, June 3.
