Detectives are appealing for information following a botched robbery attempt on a post office in Greengates.
At around 1.45pm on Thursday, two masked youths entered the post office on Harrogate Road, brandishing what appeared to be a toy gun, and demanded money.
When the teller refused to hand over any, the two fled on foot.
The first youth is described as a white, 5ft 9ins, of slim build, in his mid to late teens.
He was wearing a grey hooded top, dark trousers and had a white scarf around his face.
The second youth is described as around 16. He wore light-coloured hooded top and a balaclava or ski mask.
A spokeswoman for Bradford North CID said: "Although this seems to have been quite an amateurish operation involving young offenders, we are treating it very seriously.
"The post office staff did not believe the weapon used was real but we cannot be totally sure of that.
"The suspects made off on foot so there is a chance that someone may have seen them before or after the incident.
"This was a very frightening incident for the post office staff and we would urge anyone with any information to contact Bradford North CID on (01274) 376285, quoting reference number 91563."
