More than 70 per cent of Asian people living in the UK are not saving for retirement, according to development agency QED UK.
The charity, which provides education, employment and training for people of South Asian origin, is rolling out a programme of information events designed to raise awareness of the importance of saving for the future.
Ansar Jawed was one of more than 20 Asian employers from across West Yorkshire who attended QED UK's recent information event in Bradford.
Mr Jawed said: "I think the fact a high percentage of Asian men and women are not saving for retirement is largely due to culture.
"Traditionally, Asian people have relied on their families, and how wealthy you happen to be is often due to the success of your forefathers.
"Saving for your future can only be a good thing, and this programme is a great appetiser' for anyone looking to start a pension."
QED UK chief executive Dr Mohammed Ali OBE said: "In its first year alone, our Pension Education Progr-amme has reached over 700 Asian people in the region. We believe it is crucial employers and employees are aware of the options available to them."
