POLICE are investigating after it was confirmed a call to a gun incident in Keighley was a hoax.
Armed officers swooped on the Lawkholme area on Monday after reports a weapon had been fired and a man injured.
The force helicopter was also scrambled.
But police chiefs say the call, initially made to the ambulance service at about 5pm, was not genuine.
Chief Inspector Ian Gayles, of Bradford District Police, said: "We are conducting inquiries to determine the circumstances and to establish who was responsible.
"These types of calls can have incredibly serious consequences, where many resources are deployed, potentially resulting in them being unavailable for true emergencies.
"I would appeal to anyone who has information about this incident to contact the Keighley Neighbourhood Policing Team via 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
