A KEIGHLEY woman whose life was saved by fellow folk music fans is organising a major fundraising concert in their honour.

Elaine Wood, 66, suffered a heart attack while compering a gathering of the town’s popular Baccapipes Folk Club in October last year.

Regular members including a doctor rushed to give life-saving CPR while the performers, sea shanty group Kimber’s Men, called paramedics.

Now, despite still recuperating, lifelong folk fan Elaine is organising an all-day family event at Victoria Hall to raise money for worthy causes.

She said: “Even before I left hospital I decided to do something to say thank you to all concerned, to celebrate being alive.

“The best place to do that is through the music and people I love. The best place to do it is Keighley.”

The event, entitled Alive & Kicking, will be held at Victoria Hall in March 19, starting at noon with craft stalls, children’s activities, and performances by professional and amateur musicians from the Baccapipes Folk Club.

Morris dancers will perform in Keighley town centre, and in the evening a concert will feature folk legend Dave Burland, Chris Sherburn and Denny Bartley, and award-winning duo Chris and Kellie While.

Proceeds will be split between the British Heart Foundation and a charity already supported by Baccapipes members, the Gambian Schools Trust.
