West Yorkshire Fire Service was among the winners at the national Fire and Rescue Service Equality and Diversity Awards 2007.
A programme to install free smoke alarms and deliver home fire safety checks helped the district's firefighters scoop the prizes.
The awards, held at Birmingham's NEC, also recognised West Yorkshire firefighters who had led projects to reach out to ethnic minorities and had got safety messages across to teenagers with learning difficulties.
Maria Tonks equality & diversity manager at West Yorkshire Fire Rescue Service, was presented with a commendation in the Partnership Working Team Award section.
