AN ANGRY resident has demanded Bradford Council hold more bin collections in Frizinghall after "disgusting" rubbish was left on its streets.
Simon Grybas, 33, says bags of domestic rubbish remained uncollected on Keighley Road and Ferndale Avenue for three weeks when there should be weekly scheduled bin collections.
Meanwhile, items including plastic freezers, mattresses, wardrobes, plastic boxes and plaster board have also been dumped on the side streets.
Mr Grybas is pictured surrounded by more than a dozen waste collection bins which were overflowing and waiting to be collected.
He says rats and mice have also been spotted around the rubbish bags and bins in previous weeks.
Mr Grybas, of Keighley Road, Frizinghall, has called on the council to do more to clear up the area's "embarrassing" streets.
He said: "It's like Bradford Council have neglected our area. It makes Bradford look terrible.
"It has been going on since before Christmas. It's disgraceful.
"I feel like it's a neglected area.
"We are paying our council taxes. The council should be collecting the rubbish every week.
"It's annoying and frustrating and it gets me angry.
"People are dumping rubbish out of their car windows as they drive past.
"It's embarrassing. There is litter everywhere. It's like something from the third world.
"At Christmas time, we had mice and rats around the rubbish. Both the residents and council need to do more.
"It just needs some effort to make Frizinghall a proud area. It's a shame.
"The council has cleared the rubbish but the fly-tipping is a bad problem.
"The collections happened on Tuesday but there is still rubbish there."
Mr Grybas' complaints follow other residents' complaints last month over an "eyesore" fly-tipping site on a resident's doorstep.
Alison Wallis, 38, of Rydal Avenue, Frizinghall, says the former car park of the Black Swan pub, at the junction of Frizinghall Road and Rydal Avenue, was being used as a dumping ground for fly-tippers.
A pile including two mattresses, wooden carpet gripper rods with nails sticking out, wooden curtain poles and rolls of carpet was dumped at the site on Saturday night.
But Bradford Council did not specifically answer Mr Grybas' queries, instead referring residents with any problems with waste collections and fly-tipping to a council phone line and its website.
A council spokesman said: "If anyone has any concerns about waste collection in the area, they can speak to a local council warden, contact the council on 01274 431000, or report using the council app for smart phones and tablets.
“We would ask anyone who witnesses an incident of fly-tipping to note down the times and dates and any registration numbers of vehicles involved."
