FIREFIGHTERS called in police when they discovered cannabis growing equipment at a fire which badly damaged two floors of a terraced house.
No-one was at home when the fire broke out in the property in Beverley Street at Laisterdyke, Bradford, today at about 8.10am.
When fire crews arrived, smoke was pouring out from under the roof slates and from a bedroom window.
Firefighters forced their way in and then had to force their way into a neighbouring property when it was feared the fire was spreading further.
Six firefighters went into the house to bring the fire under control.
Fire investigators are trying to pinpoint the cause the blaze, which may be linked to the cultivation of cannabis plants inside the property.
Crime scene investigators went to the scene after fire crews had doused flames in a bedroom and an attic room.
The fire was attended by two crews from Bradford station and one from Odsal.
A fire service spokesman said the fire had caused a lot of fire and smoke damage on two floors. No-one was injured.
A police spokesman officers were called by the fire service at 8.20am.
"The property contained items consistent with the production of cannabis. Inquiries are ongoing."
