FLY-tippers who blocked a road in Queensbury with a mini-mountain of rubbish have been slammed.

Angry residents took to social media after a pile containing, among other things, a bath, a sofa and building rubble, was dumped on Stocks Lane at the weekend.

Today, Councillor Paul Cromie (Ind, Queensbury) helped Bradford Council workers who were clearing the mess up. On the fly-tipping, he said: "It is absolutely disgraceful. I have never seen as much rubbish tipped in one site in one session. They have completely blocked the road."

One local described the dumping as "disgusting", while another said: "What a terrible thing to do."

Cllr Cromie had a message to all fly-tippers: "Stop doing it. It is costing the Council a fortune. It is an eyesore and a blight on the neighbourhood."

He added: "There was a lot of building material and stuff like that. It was dangerous stuff. There was some bathroom stuff in there as well.

"The Council have gone down with their pick-up and they were going to struggle to get it in one lot.

"It was quite a way down Stocks Lane. It is access to farms over there. It is an unadopted road, but it is quite a good road - not a bumpy, horrible road."

A Council spokesman said: "A complaint of fly-tipping was received this morning by our cleansing team and the waste was removed. No evidence was found or any witnesses identified."
