KEIGHLEY'S Girlguiding movement turned out in force for its annual Thinking Day celebration.

Members took part in a parade and packed into Keighley Shared Church for a service.

The parade, between Town Hall Square and the church, was led by the City of Bradford Pipe Band.

Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and leaders all took part in today's celebration.

Guests at the service included Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire David Pearson, the Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Joanne Dodds, Girlguiding county and division representatives, Keighley town councillors and Scouts district commissioner Jeanette Young.

A welcome was given by the Reverend Sandie Exley-Watts.

Several awards were presented.

The Sarah Robinson Award, given annually for an outstanding contribution to Girlguiding in Keighley, went to division commissioner Kay Bolton.

She joined the movement as a Brownie and became a young leader and then assistant leader in the 1980s, before being appointed a guider in charge.

Mrs Bolton has held various posts over the years, becoming division commissioner in 2011.

"I am very proud but shocked to receive the award – it was a complete surprise," she said.

The presentation was made by division president Mrs Margaret Bailey, who paid tribute.

"Kay is committed to Guiding in Keighley and it's a privilege to present this award – it's very well deserved," she said.

A number of other awards were also handed out, including long-service accolades.

An award for 50 years' service went to Mrs Janet Armstrong.

Rainbows, Brownies and Guides from Keighley East gave a presentation on the theme of connections.

And all members of the movement renewed their promises.

A collection taken during the service will be split between the Shared Church and Keighley Salvation Army.
