A WOMAN from Burley Woodhead had to be cut out of her car following a three vehicle crash in Clayton this evening.

Police, fire crews and ambulances were called to an accident near St Anthony's Church on Bradford Road just after 6pm.

One of the cars involved in the crash, a Seat Ibiza had left the road and hit a tree in front of the church.

Its occupant, a 55 year old woman from the Burley Woodhead area, was cut out of the car by firefighters and transported to Bradford Royal Infirmary with suspected chest and abdominal injuries.

Another car, a Nissan Micra, suffered damage to its front but had parked up safely after the crash, according to firefighters on the scene.

Michael Smith, watch commander at Fairweather Green fire station, said: "It was a three car crash but we only had to deal with one car. We took the woman from the car that had wrapped around a tree out through the boot on a long board.

"She had suspected chest and abdominal injuries."

A crew from Odsal Fire Station also attended.

One witness told the Telegraph & Argus that multiple emergency vehicles could be seen along the stretch of Bradford Road following the crash.

At 7.20pm fire crews from Fairweather Green were called to reports of a car on fire in Scholemoor Cemetery. When they arrived they found an Audi A5, which it thought to be linked to the previous crash, ablaze.

Fire crews used dry powder to put out the fire, but the car was completely destroyed.
