A GROUP of men burning copper cable in a back yard sparked a major alert as fire crews scrambled to reports of a building on fire.
The large pile of plastic-covered cable was giving off a lot of black smoke as it burned in a back yard off Shetcliffe Lane, Bierley, Bradford.
Two fire engines from Bradford fire station were sent to the scene after the incident was reported as a building fire at around 1.39pm today.
The men were warned about their behaviour and their fire was extinguished.
A fire spokesman said: "We advised them that it was a pollutant and against environmental health policies."
