A killer, who badly injured a landlord when he threw a glass in a pub from which he was barred, was jailed today.

Richard Palmer, 41, was told by a judge that from time to time he lost his temper and resorted to violence.

Palmer, of Paley Road, West Bowling, Bradford, was sentenced to eight months imprisonment at Leeds Crown Court. He had been found guilty of unlawful wounding following a trial last month.

Judge Geoffrey Marson QC told him: "You have a significant criminal record. You have a conviction for assault and a conviction for manslaughter resulting in a significant prison sentence.

"At 41 years old you ought to know better.

"This was an assault on a landlord in his own pub from which you were barred. Having been asked to leave, it's quite apparent you lost your temper and deliberately threw a glass which shattered and caused the landlord significant and unpleasant injuries."

The incident took place at the Listers pub in Manchester Road, Bradford, leaving landlord Alan Morrall with cuts to his hand, ear and eyebrow.

Gerald Hendron, defending, argued that a community order with a condition that Palmer attended an anger management programme would be in the best long-term interest of the defendant and the public.

But the judge told Palmer: "It is so serious that nothing other than immediate custody can possibly be justified."
