BRADFORD Chamber of Trade has voiced its support for the major redevelopment of a city centre site.
British Land submitted plans to demolish the former Royal Mail sorting office at Forster Square and build a cinema, restaurants and gym in its place, last year.
The sorting office was closed in 2013 and under the plans it would become the third phase of the Forster Square retail park development.
A decision on the application is expected soon, and the chamber of trade has written to Bradford Council to voice its support for the scheme.
A letter from secretary Val Summerscales to the council's planning department said: "The location is a key strategic and gateway route into the city centre and we feel their proposals are in keeping with what would be expected from the site. Its intended use will also compliment existing leisure destinations in the city centre and will enhance opportunities to encourage the local community and visitors to the city, and hopefully, will prolong their visit.
"This site has been empty since it was vacated by Royal Mail - we need and encourage businesses to invest in Bradford - as such we welcome these proposals which will bring into use this vacant site."
