MEMBERS of a church social club helped an original member celebrate her 90th birthday.
Rona Bennett is a regular at St James's Wednesday Club, based in the St James's Church Hall, Bolton Road, Bradford.
The club started in 1980 with 200 members, including Mrs Bennet who joined with her husband, Arthur.
Now the group supports its 45 members by providing a weekly gathering for pensioners.
Mrs Bennett's daughter, Christine Waterhouse, and friend Dorothy Heseltine, who is one of the original volunteers, joined the birthday party.
Wednesday Club leader Keith Fell said: “We have always strived to deliver an uplifting community spirit and give companionship to whomever wishes to visit or join the Wednesday club. We’re a friendly bunch and it’s always a delight to welcome new members and volunteers.
“Birthday girl, Rona is the only remaining original member of the group, alongside volunteer of 36 years, Dorothy Heseltine, so we thought it would be a lovely occasion to invite some of the original team to join in Rona’s celebration, as lasting friendships have been formed over the years.”
The Club meets every Wednesday at the church hall from 1.30pm to 4pm. Anyone interested in joining should contact Mr Fell on 01274 627472 or drop in to the church hall on Wednesday’s afternoon at 1.30pm.
