A MAN who grew up in the Bradford district has received his MBE award at Buckingham Palace.
Gary Tubman, who used to live in Guard House, Keighley, was presented with the honour by Prince Charles in recognition of his contribution to mental health nursing.
He has been a matron for the intensive care and rehabilitation service at South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust.
Mr Tubman, 56, is currently spending a year travelling around Spain with his partner, though intends to resume work as an advisor when he returns to England.
He was born in Keighley and educated at Highfield Middle School and Oakbank School, before spending several years working as a supervisor at Morrisons Supermarket.
He left for London when he was in his 20s and worked for the NHS trust for 35 years.
All four of his siblings still live in Keighley. His sister, Patricia Karanovic, who lives in Fell Lane, said: "He found out he'd be getting an MBE in June.
"He and his partner Babs came back to England for the presentation at Buckingham Palace. We are all so proud of him."
