A BRADFORD-born rugby league international is to appear in court later this month charged with child sex offences.
Adam Walker, 24, who plays for Super League side Hull Kingston Rovers, faces two charges of attempting to engage in sexual activity with a child.
He is due to appear at Wakefield Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, February 17.
In a statement, his club said that Mr Walker "maintained his innocence" over the allegations.
He voluntarily attended a police station in June last year to be questioned by officers after allegations were made in a national newspaper article.
Prop forward Mr Walker, a Scottish international, was subsequently left out of Hull Kingston Rovers' Super League game against Huddersfield Giants.
A police spokesman said today: "West Yorkshire Police can confirm that Adam Walker, aged 24, from Shipley, was charged on January 27, 2016, with two offences of attempting to engage in sexual activity with a child.
"He will appear before Wakefield Magistrates in February."
A statement issued by Hull Kingston Rovers read: "Hull Kingston Rovers have been made aware by the player and his legal representative of charges brought against him by West Yorkshire Police.
"Adam continues to maintain his innocence and expects to be exonerated once the matter is before the courts.
"The matter is under constant review by the club, and until such time as the situation changes the club will continue to support Adam and he will remain available for selection.
"Given there are now pending criminal proceedings before the court, it would be wholly inappropriate for the club to comment further."
Walker has eight caps for Scotland and represented his country in the 2013 World Cup.
