COUNCILLORS have agreed to look at introducing safety measures on a street in Heaton dubbed a potential "accident hotspot" by worried residents.
People living on Altar Drive had submitted a petition to the Bradford West Area Committee asking the authority to consider a range of traffic calming options, including a request to block the road off and make it a "gated community."
The petitioners said speeding motorists were becoming an increasing danger, and claimed that the street's junctions with Heaton Park Road and Heaton Park Drive were dangerous.
A report put before the committee stated that during a traffic survey in November and December last year, the average daily traffic flow was 570 vehicles, with an average speed of slightly above 19mph.
Councillors have now agreed to look at potential future road safety measures such as speed bumps, double yellow lines at the junctions with Heaton Park Road and Heaton Park Drive, and a flashing 20mph sign.
A report from the committee meeting said members had agreed "that the request for traffic calming measures on Altar Drive be added to the Bradford West Area Committee’s list of potential schemes for inclusion in a future Safer Roads Schemes Programme, subject to funding being available."
