Leicester-based Dunelm Mill, which has 80 branches in the UK, is set to open a 27,000 square foot store at the former Morrisons site in Sticker Lane, Bowling.
About 80 new jobs have been created.
The unit, which has stood vacant for several years, has been transformed into a vast homeware haven for the city's residents.
Former Bradford schoolgirl Lisa Waddington, 37, was set to open the store, achieving a long-standing ambition.
Miss Waddington, a former Eccleshill Upper School pupil who is originally from Undercliffe, recently moved to the Leicester area to be near her fiance Michael and is now the PA to the chief executive of the Dunelm Mill Group.
She said she had always wanted to open a store and was delighted to be opening her home store in Bradford.
