Pupils at St James' Church Primary School in Allerton have been learning more about the benefits of recycling and composting thanks to a popular new school initiative.
Every classroom now collects food waste in its own bio-bag.
Learning mentor Carolyn Rhodes said: "We bought some compost bins and the bio-bags came free with those. However, the bags were so successful we had to order some more. Every day our pupils eat fruit and veg and the remnants of that is placed in the bags.
"Each classroom's bag is usually filled each day before being placed on our compost heap. One pupil even reminded the staff to make sure their tea-bags were placed in a bio-bag!
"They love it and are looking forward to placing the compost on our vegetable patch later in the year. The bio-bags have been a huge success!"
