A Bradford MP caught in the middle of the Labour leadership voting confusion has backed calls for an investigation into how his name appeared on two nomination papers.
Last week the Telegraph & Argus revealed that Bradford West MP Marsha Singh's name was said to be on a list of Labour MPs pledging support to John McDonnell in his quest to challenge the Chancellor in the contest to succeed Tony Blair.
The news came as a shock to Mr Singh, who said he had pledged his support to Michael Meacher and had not signed Mr McDonnell's form. Mr Singh said: "It is important that this is looked in to. My signature appeared, as did my name, on both lists and I did not do it."
It has now been alleged that MP for Hemsworth, Jon Trickett, also was named as being on Mr McDonnell's list but he confirmed that he only nominated Gordon Brown for the leadership and "no one else."
Mr Meacher conceded after it appeared that fellow left-winger Mr McDonnell had more support. It is thought that with the queried names, he would have gone forward as the left-wing candidate.
