Campaigners have won their fight to make a busy school-run road safer - but will have to wait up to two years before schoolchildren benefit.
Bradford Council bowed to pressure to take action at the Heaton danger spot after more than 120 people signed a petition asking for a crossing at the point where Bingley Road meets Cottingley Cliffe Road at the junction with Long Lane.
The Council has agreed to look at measures to make it easier to cross Cottingley Cliffe Road, such as widening the pavement near the junction of Long Lane and installing a refuge island in the centre of the road.
But campaigners were dismayed after learning funding for the measures would not be available for up to two years.
Nasreen Ali, who is leading the campaign, said: "I am pleased something is being done but feel disheartened that it's going to take so long. Now that we have the nicer weather, there are a lot more people crossing that road.
"I have taken a few mums with their children on the walking bus to school and they have said that unless there is a crossing they won't let their children use it.
"My children often ask if they can use their bikes to go to school but I won't let them because you cannot cross that road with bikes."
Mrs Ali, 35, spotted the dangers after deciding to leave her car at her Heaton home in Shay Crescent and start walking to Cottingley Village Primary School with her two children, Madhiya, seven, and Mohsin, eight, in September.
The finance and administration officer was appalled by a danger spot along the 30-minute route where the pavement narrows at the junction of Long Lane, forcing people to cross to the other side across the busy road.
Mrs Ali has vowed to continue lobbying the council to have something done sooner.
Bradford Council's senior traffic engineer, Christine Hopkinson, said: "We are looking into certain measures to make it easier to cross Cottingley Cliffe Road, such as extending the pavement near the junction of Long Lane and installing a refuge island in the centre of the road.
"The funding for these measures will not be available until a year or two years from now as it will have to come from the Area Committee's pot.
Allocation of funding will be at the discretion of the committee."
