Residents in Bradford are being warned against a second-hand clothing scam.
Consumer Direct has been contacted by hundreds of people who have received a leaflet, Clothing Collection, which asks for unwanted clothes and other goods.
The leaflet gives a collection date and claims that the goods will be distributed to secondhand shops in Eastern Europe to help families who cannot afford to buy new.
It also says the company provides jobs in those countries, business for UK export and employment in UK factories.
John Field, Consumer Direct manager for Yorkshire and the Humber, said: I would urge people to remember that these companies are operating a business, they are not charities." He said profit would be made from donations.
Consumer Direct is urging people to donate unwanted goods to registered charities.
