A new monthly music night featuring the sounds of the 1950s to the 1980s is being launched at Yo Yo Bar and Restaurant in Shipley.

And the organisers are looking for performers who are interested in taking to the stage.

The event, called rpm@YoYo will be held on the first Thursday of each month, starting on June 7. It features a mixture of live performances and recorded music in the form of old vinyl from the Fifties to the Eighties.

Promoter and performer Andrew Brown says: "We wanted to provide a venue where talented singers and musicians can perform in a relaxed environment. This is definitely not a jam night or karaoke!

"We also want to try and re-inspire anyone who maybe used to perform but has fallen out of the habit. If there is anyone out there who would like to get involved, please get in touch."

Julian Brown, under the moniker The Duke', will be providing the vinyl aspect of rpm@yoyo.

"There is something special about a DJ playing vinyl," he says. "I guess there's a time and a place for people churning out pre-programmed mp3s from a laptop but it won't be here!"

There will be three live performances a month and diners will also have chance to hear recordings by artists as diverse as The Everly Brothers, The Four Tops, The Velvet Underground, David Bowie, Chic, The Jam, Echo and the Bunnymen, Kraftwerk and Duran Duran.

An rpm@yoyo session will also be part of this year's Saltaire Festival in September.

The first rpm@YoYo is at Yo Yo Bar and Restaurant, Rosse Street, Shipley, on Thursday, June 7 at 7.30pm. It features Rob Holden, Andrew N Brown, David Coxon and The Duke'.
