Photographer Roger Moody was inspired by the historic and contemporary architecture of Bradford to create a new project setting images to music.
Roger, a former Telegraph & Argus photographer, will unveil his exhibition, called Juxtaposed, in Bradford tonight.
The photographs show striking contrasts between the facades of Bradford's Victorian and Georgian buildings and those built in the city from the 1960s onwards.
"The concept started when I took pictures for Bradford marketing company Zymo's move into the William Taylor House in Eldon Place, Bradford," said Roger.
"The Georgian building was built as a home for a Dr William Taylor, who was from Bradford and worked at the Infirmary. I loved the look of the building and was inspired to start taking photographs of other architecture around Bradford city centre.
"I don't like taking pictures just because something is pretty. I'd rather have a reason for taking them."
The buildings Roger photographed include Brittania House, the Paper House - Bradford's oldest building - the Kirkgate Centre and the city centre NatWest bank. He had the idea of putting the exhibition to music, and chose Debussy's En Blanc et Noir (In Black and White).
"Looking at various buildings around the city, I realised what a contrast there is. I turned one of the photographs into black and white accidentally and decided it looked better that way," he said.
"Debussy's duet is composed of different scales, each using entirely white keys and black keys, and has sharp contrasts in mood. I liked the idea of putting the black and white contrasts in the music with those in the photographs."
Now Roger, a freelance photographer, is developing the concept of reading a photograph as a musical score.
"The buildings in my exhibition look a bit like piano keys, I want to create a photograph that tells you what notes to play. Instead of reading music you read the picture," he said.
Zymo moved to William Taylor House and has refurbished the four-storey building.
l Juxtaposed is open tonight at William Taylor House, 8 Eldon Place, Bradford, from 5pm to 7pm. Call (01274) 391234.
