People applying to be council house tenants in Kirklees will be at the end of the queue if they are former tenants with previous arrears, or have been the subject of confirmed anti-social behaviour.
Councillor Khizar Iqbal, the cabinet member for housing, said: "In updating our policy on allocating council houses I want to re-affirm that former tenants still in arrears will - unless there are exceptional circumstances such as fleeing domestic violence - have a lower priority when it comes to being allocated a house."
He also stressed that former tenants, and their families, with recorded warnings or instances relating to anti-social behaviour would also have those issues taken into account when applying to become council house tenants again.
