A South Craven man has helped a Norwegian-Swedish shipping giant to secure an international environment award.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL) has been recognised for its groundbreaking concept ship designed to run exclusively on renewable energy.

The E/S Orcelle, named after an endangered species of dolphin, has been being hailed as the world's first truly environmentally friendly freight ship, harnessing the power of the sun, wind and water and emitting zero emissions.

Public relations manager Robert Minton-Taylor, of Meadow Lane, Cononley, was part of a multi-disciplinary team of environmental experts, industrial designers, public affairs professionals and a naval architect which worked on the conceptual design.

Its work has now been recognised by the global maritime shipping newspaper Lloyd's List at an awards ceremony in London.

WWL received the paper's prestigious "Clean Seas" award from Jeremy Vine, presenter of the BBC1's flagship "Panorama"' current affairs TV programme.

Mr Minton-Taylor combines his work for WWL with teaching at Leeds Metropolitan University where he is an associate senior lecturer in public relations in the Faculty of Business Law.
