Police are trying to trace a man who grabbed a 12-year-old boy by the neck.
The incident happened at 3.45pm on Friday in Morrisons car park in Skipton when the youth and some friends were heard swearing.
The man took exception to their language and grabbed the 12-year-old and told him not to swear in front of his wife.
A police spokesman said the youth had been left shaken and upset and had red marks on his neck.
Now officers want to talk to the man, who is described as white, 5ft 6ins tall, aged between 30 and 40, with light brown hair and a goatee-type beard.
His wife was about the same age and had a pony tail. She was wearing a long-sleeved top, either red or brown.
Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Hannah Peake at Skipton Police Station on 0845 6060 247.
