The leader of Leeds City Council has dismissed fears that a new safety scheme for Otley's riverside could be rushed through within the next week.
Alternatives to the original £165,000 river fence proposals for Wharfemeadows Park, which sparked a furious reaction among residents, were unveiled at the Civic Centre at 5.30pm on Thursday.
Campaigners initially welcomed the move, but then feared the meeting might only serve as a "token consultation" to allow the Council to go ahead and approve the new plans at its executive board meeting on Wednesday.
But Leeds Council leader Councillor Andrew Carter insisted no decision would be taken until full and proper consultation had been carried out.
He said: "We are not planning to rush this through. I've said we will consult and we will do. We are certainly not going to make another hasty decision."
