Police have been cracking down on motorists illegally turning at an Otley danger junction' - and have acknowledged it is a serious problem.
Tony Grey, landlord of the Black Horse Hotel, started putting posters up around the junction at Westgate, Manor Square, Market Place and Kirkgate last week to alert pedestrians to the hazard.
Otley Police Inspector Simon Hepworth responded by visiting the area for himself and saw a near-miss.
He said: "I personally attended the junction with a couple of officers and can confirm that what I would consider a significant number of drivers are apparently ignoring the signs and making illegal turns.
"Whilst I was there I witnessed a pedestrian nearly being knocked over by someone executing an illegal turn.
"We have issued a number of fixed penalty tickets for the offence and will continue to do so."
Mr Grey has, however, been told to take down the posters he had attached to traffic lights and lampposts in the area.
Police officers will meet with city council highways officials and Otley MP Greg Mulholland at the site to discuss possible ways forward.
