Tesco has won an appeal which will allow the supermarket to see more non-food items from its Brighouse store.
When the chain was first given planning permission in 2001strict conditions restricted white goods to 15 per cent.
In 2004 Calderdale Council refused to increase the amount to 25 per cent, and a planning inquiry took place last month.
Planning inspector Stephen Pratt concluded that an increase to 31 per cent would be acceptable.
He said: "I cannot see that the limited increase in comparison floorspace proposed would cause a significant threat to the vitality and viability of the town centre as a whole or would cause a reduction in the propensity to make linked trips to the town centre."
He said he realised it would more than double the amount of floorspace for non-food goods, but the practical difference would be minimal.
