Police are hunting a thief who stole a handbag containing distinctive foreign currency from a house.

The opportunist thief reached inside the open front door of a house in Baildon and picked up the bag, while the occupant was in a back room.

The bag and some of its contents was recovered nearby but an Iranian rial note, the equivalent of £100, is still missing.

The theft took place between 9.30am and 10am on Friday, May 4. Police have not revealed the exact location of the house.

They are appealing for anyone with knowledge of anyone possessing Iranian money to contact them and have advised householders to lock their doors, even when they are at home, and not leave property on view.

Anyone with information should contact Keighley CID on (01535) 617085, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
