SKIPTON Girls' High School pupils are getting a feel for the jobs of station managers and programme controllers.
The Gargrave Road school has launched its own radio station to go on the internet and this will be run by the girls.
They are aiming to produce high-quality programmes that deal with issues that affect young people today, such as careers advice, interviews and news articles.
The girls will write, produce and edit the programmes themselves and then put them on the internet.
Radiowaves - a company from Leeds which hosts the radio website - has been in to the school to show the girls what to do.
A competition will decide the name and a logo for the station and new recruits will be trained each year.
The school has also launched its own record label.
NUMU, the record label host, will allow pupils to use MP3 players, computers, microphones, headphones and leads to put their own music on the internet under the school's own record label.
The project is part of a school initiative to try to promote modern engineering and technology applications.
