A FAMILY-RUN Bradford vegetarian restaurant has become the only Indian venue in Yorkshire to win a two rosette award from the AA.
Prashad at Drighlington has scooped the award for culinary excellence . It adds to a string of awards for the business in Whitehall Road which reached the finals of the 'Ramsay's Best Restaurant' TV programme in 2010.
Bobby Patel, managing director, said the latest accolade came out of the blue.
He said: "It was just a normal day in the restaurant, and the team were preparing for a busy evening when a package arrived from the AA. There isn’t really a set month for AA awards to arrive, so none of us were expecting anything. After a few tense moments opening the parcel, Minal, our head chef’s, grin said it all.
“We’re delighted. It’s a big award for our team, and a huge vote of confidence in Indian vegetarian food, which makes it extra special.
“Our menu still features many classic Prashad vegetarian dishes, but we’ve also got some exciting new recipes using regional produce, influenced by Minal’s former mentor, Gordon Ramsay, and we think this is also reflected with the award.”
Prashad was started by Bobby’s parents, Kaushy and Mohan Patel in Bradford more than ver 22 years ago. The restaurant will launch a second cookery book in August, written by former owner and head chef Kaushy Patel.
