A WOMEN'S campaigner has urged communities to unite to oppose violence against women and girls at a candlelit vigil tonight in memory of pregnant mum-of-two Nadia Khan who was stabbed to death at her home.
About 150 people gathered in City Park in the centre of Bradford to pay tribute to Mrs Khan, 24, who was killed in Manningham on Sunday.
Friends and family of Mrs Khan were among those present.
Yasmin Khan, of women's charity Bradford Staying Put, said: "I have seen many wonderful women and girls lost to violence and abuse.
"Today is a sign that we are trying to end violence against women and girls."
She said two women a week were killed in the UK.
"We should be outraged with these statistics, we should be furious."
She added: "Nadia's family are going through a difficult time that none of us can comprehend.
"Nadia was a very strong woman, a mum, a daughter, a sister and a friend. She was much loved and respected by everyone.
"We are honouring Nadia and making sure that we don't forget the two lives that were lost - her and her baby."
Candles were placed on the steps leading up to Bradford magistrates' court along with placards, one which read: "Nadia Khan. Gone but not forgotten."
Orange ribbons were handed to those who attended the vigil in recognition of the United Nations campaign to end violence against women and girls.
