A MAN and a woman appeared in court yesterday, accused of taking part in a sham marriage.
Eva Dankova, 42, who is Slovakian, and Muhammed Khalil, 34, a Pakistani national, both of Devonshire Street West, Keighley, appeared at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court.
They are charged with conspiring together, at Keighley Town Hall between January 12 and February 2 this year, to do an act, a sham marriage, which facilitated the commission of a breach of immigration law to obtain a residence permit for "the groom" Khalil, who was not a citizen of the EU.
Dankova is also accused of bigamy.
The pair, who appeared from custody, indicated not guilty pleas through their solicitor, Ray Singh, who successfully argued they be granted conditional bail until their next appearance at Bradford Crown Court on July 1.
Prosecutor Linda Fowler said the Crown would be appealing the bail decision.
